The Barrier Buddy System is intended to be used during the inspection of cannulated devices on the clean side of sterile processing. It is a device designed to contain materials produced or potentially produced as a result of inspecting the cannulated instrument. Click here to download the IFU.
The Barrier Buddy System currently has three components. A detachable top/lid, a detachable bottom, and a clear tube.Assemble the top and the bottom component on each end of the tube and setup right on your workstation. Insert the distal tip of your cannulated instrument into the top of The Barrier Buddy System. Next, use your modality of inspection. This could be flush inspection followed by an inspection implement, visual inspection device such as a borescope, or a clean verification strip.The Barrier Buddy system will contain any materials produced during the inspection process.
If you have discovered that your instrument is contaminated while using The Barrier Buddy System, leave everything inside ofThe Barrier Buddy System to keep all contaminated items contained. Return todecontamination per your facility policy/procedure.
If there is an instrument in The Barrier BuddySystem when received into decontamination, remove the instrument and clean it according the instructions for use (IFU). Disassemble all components of TheBarrier Buddy System, and place in a basket approved for the washer disinfector. Rinse the components of The Barrier Buddy System, and then place them in the enzymatic solution, soaking according to the IFU of the enzymatic solution. Rinse the components before placing in the washer disinfector. Do not use harsh chemicals such as acids, or corrosives. Do not use stiff bristled brushes or wire brushes on the components.
The Barrier Buddy System should be returned to decontamination for cleaning and replaced with a new one when: The Barrier Buddy System becomes contaminated during the inspection process. When the flushing fluid reaches a level that prevents being able to inspect an instrument without touching the fluid inside When there is wear and tear to The Barrier Buddy System that prevents it from being used as intended. The Barrier Buddy System should be free from cracks, chips and tears. The tube should be clear and not marred from over use as this could prevent appropriate visibility during the inspection process.
